Frankfurt International World Beer Awards
Wrexham Lager is delighted to announce that both our bottled products, Wrexham Export Lager and Bootlegger 1974 Pilsner, have won double gold awards at the prestigious Frankfurt International World Beer Awards.
Prior to lockdown, the majority of Wrexham Lager trade was done via draught, through the pumps. But, due to the sudden closing of pubs in these unprecedented times, we as a company had to quickly adapt to solely concentrate on our bottling side of the business.
We began with a new ‘Home Delivery Service’ around Wrexham and Flintshire, delivering either of our Wrexham Export or Bootlegger 1974 Pilsner. We were encouraged with the consistent feedback of both brews and the high demand for Bootlegger 1974 Pilsner.
‘Bootlegger 1974 Pilsner’ was born through a partnership with local Wrexham favorite ‘Bootlegger’ who continues to gain online popularity all over the country and has been a pleasure to work alongside. With further exposure generated & accelerated by Bootleggers love of ‘pilsner’! we diversified into the online market to make our crates accessible for anyone, anywhere on UK mainland (Wales, England & Scotland) to have delivered to your door.
We continued to receive further positive reviews for both our bottled products, reaching consumers from the Highlands of Scotland to Lands’ end, Cornwall, as well as gaining orders from Ireland, America and receiving enquiries from several European countries which we soon hope to be able to reach. The reviews we were receiving were consistent from all areas within the UK and therefore, we chose to enter both our bottled products into a World Beer Trophy award held in Frankfurt, Germany.
Competing with over 2900 other bottled lagers & spirits from all over the globe including America, France, Belgium, Austria and of course Germany itself, we have found out not only have we competed respectfully in this competition, but won double golds for both Wrexham Export Lager and Bootlegger 1974 Pilsner. This is an achievement we could have only dreamt of, yet knowing we couldn’t have done it without the backing and support we firstly received from our locals who inspired us to go further afield. It will never be forgotten and we only aim to keep on improving and maintaining these standards.
We thank The Welsh government Food and Drink Body for publishing and sending out our story to different medias along with the certificate of our golds for ‘Best bottled lager’ and ‘Best international pilsner’, but we wanted to express the news ourselves to show our appreciation to each and every customer who have supported us, not only through these strange times, but at all times. Without you, none of this would have been possible.
During lockdown, we promised to reopen our brewery when possible for tours so our customers can once again visit us and see what goes on behind the scenes of putting the liquid gold into a bottle. This is something we will ensure happens to show our gratitude when able with all proceedings going to Nightingale Hospice.
From all at Wrexham Lager, a huge Thank you, stay safe and of course, Iechyd Da!
